The client - Ali Birtwell - Marketing Consultant, Give Communications
The problem - Ali’s website images were mainly drawn from stock photo libraries so didn't look particularly inspiring or connected to her brand. Ali had previously used my headshot service and was using these on her Home and About pages. Ali was happy with the headshots but felt they didn’t work alongside the stock images.
The brief - To create a collection of Styled Business Flat Lays to use on Ali’s website to complement her current headshots, branding, website theme and brand colours.
The Brand Clarity call
Ali works with founders, CEOs and Heads of Marketing and Comms in charities, social enterprises, and social good organisations who need independent campaign, project advice, or interim support. Ali gives time back to her clients so they can focus on what they’re good at or passionate about, including growing their organisation or bringing in more income.
On our Brand Clarity call together, we chatted about how she often joins a project on a tight deadline, or needs to provide extra project support for a team that’s stretched or in flux. So it was important for Ali’s styled flay lay collection to reflect a sense of calm and order, as well as high quality.
Deciding on the special items
After our Brand Clarity call, Ali selected the special items she wanted to include in her Styled Business Flat Lays.

Once I’d received the box of special things in the post, I worked in my home studio adding props and backgrounds from my collection to help create Ali’s brand story. I also made sure I created a mixture of flat lay set-ups so some included a mobile phone, allowing me to drop Ali’s existing headshot into the finished flat lays.
Retouching and sizing images
After the shoot, I emailed Ali a link via Wetransfer™ with the retouched and resized images - I made sure there was a good selection of landscape and portrait sized images so Ali could use them on her social channels as well as her website. Once she was happy with the images, I carefully packaged up Ali’s special things and returned them by registered post.
The outcome
“I now have an eye-catching, on brand, personalised selection of photos that will massively improve the look of my website. Susan also supplied resized images for use on social media and there's such a great selection overall that I think I will get a huge range of use from them!
